Welcome to the 2007 RBC Kiwanis webpage! Home of the 2004, 2005, and 2006 Langsdorf League Regular Season Champs Coach Jack Shiestle is back for his 44th consecutive season as coach of the semi-professional Racine Kiwanis! The Kiwanis were 39-15 overall, 16-8 in the Land O' Lakes League and 23-7 in the Langsdorf League in 2006. The Kiwanis welcome new prospects Bobby Jones (catcher) and Mikole Pierce (shortstop) this year. Case High School graduate Danny Buchholz returns from an elbow injury that limited his playing time at UW-Milwaukee in 2007. Johann Andes (Park), who will play for UW-Milwaukee next season, returns at first base after hitting .295 with 20 RBIs last season. Rounding out the infield are Park graduate Eric Lehner (.286, 18 RBIs) at second base, first-year player Michael Pena, also of Park at third and Pierce, a Union Grove freshman, at shortstop.
Schiestle will rotate four outfielders, with St. Catherine's graduate Ryan Piemeisl, a first-year player, seeing time in left field, Park graduate Brady Knudsen (.337, 28 RBIs) playing in center and Erik Rieker, Ryan Gilboy and Michael Anchondo seeing time in right and at other outfield positions.
Longtime ace Kevin Sowinski (8-2, 2.14 ERA) returns, which will be a huge plus. The right-hander pitched 57 innings last season, struck out 49, walked 12 and gave up just one home run.
Rounding out the pitching staff will be Tom Starck, a first-year left-hander, Case graduate Kyle Quinn (5-2, 5.07), a right-hander, Park graduate Steve Henes (1-2, 2.53), a left-hander, Phil Gnacinski, a right-hander who has returned to the Kiwanis after a two-year absence, and the left-handed Andes (3-2, 1.88). Mike Jacobsen, a left-hander who went 7-3 with a 1.32 ERA, will be sorely missed when he leaves the team for the season to have hip surgery after making two starts. Overall depth will be provided late in the season when Tony Roedema, Eric Meeusen, Anthony Porcaro and Murphy Olson join the Kiwanis after playing for their summer league teams. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PLAYERS SELECTED TO THE 2007 FRANK LANGSDORF BASEBALL LEAGUE AND 2007 LAND O'LAKES ALL-STAR GAMES
